Tanglewood Art Studios presents Postcards from Macon & Beyond, photography by Stephen Cook. Every photograph is more than a postcard—it’s a moment of connection. Below, Stephen shares the story behind this image, inviting you to look a little deeper.
Today, I toured turf houses in northern Iceland. In a land with few trees, these grassy structures serve as living reminders of tradition.
I thought of Macon’s Ocmulgee Indigenous Celebration, where dancers keep traditions moving, step by step. Those performers represent a heritage known for building similar structures for their own purposes—there, called mounds, here, called turf houses.
Two places, an ocean apart, bound by the same truth: roots aren’t about staying still. They’re about staying connected.
