You’ll Move Mountains Mural

Creating a daily reminder that students can conquer anything

We moved mountains at Howard Middle School. For a week, I worked with sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-graders to install a 77 square-foot-mountain range and inspirational quote in their entrance. Now, each day when students and teachers arrive at school they are greeted with a bright and motivational mural that encompasses the entire entryway.

Erin happily agreed to assist my art students at Howard Middle School in the design and installation of an enormous, four-walled mural inside one of our lobby areas. Not only did she share her expertise and talents with us, but she also served as a true inspirational mentor to the approximately 175+ young teenagers with whom she worked over the course of a couple weeks. Erin provided an opportunity for these students to work with a professional graphic design artist, an experience most of them had never had nor could expect to have. Her professionalism and dedication to the project was contagious; the students were eager to follow her direction and work toward a finished product of which they could all be proud.“ Lisa Mayfield, Art Teacher, Howard Middle School
