Tanglewood Art Studios presents Postcards from Macon & Beyond, photography by Stephen Cook. Every photograph is more than a postcard—it’s a moment of connection. Below, Stephen shares the story behind this image, inviting you to look a little deeper.
Yesterday, I entered the icy caverns of Vatnajökull, Europe’s second-largest glacier. It felt as if I was floating under a frozen ocean, waves lingering longer, yet still not forever.
The distinct nature of Iceland, shaped and defined by extreme elements, reminds me of my home in Macon. The former is characterized by roaring winds, blistering cold, and fiery lava flows; the latter by summer lightning storms, humid heat, and sporadic, overnight freezes.
In each place, these polarized elements shape people and define moments, and navigating them can narrow the distance between daily comforts and foreign worlds.
From Iceland, with wonder.
